Bulgarian Football

Guys, this is a popular and respected site, and I think it is high time a Bulgarian section of the forum appeared next to the main ones. To do that, we need to show some permanent activity in this thread Let all Bulgarians and all people interested in Bulgarian football issues say if they support the idea in here.

I'll do my best to include the most interesting issues about the Bulgarian NT (national team), as well as about clubs. I look forward to hot debates between CSKA Sofia and Levski Sofia fans. The "eternal" derby is not that far away. Why don't you put down your prediction here, after all it will most probably decide what the champion will be this year.

Small team issues are also strongly encouraged. I, myself, am a Spartak Pleven fan, and would gladly enjoy discussing "B Group".

The hot issue this month is the match against the Swedes on Mar 26 at Vassil Levski Stadium. Do you think we'll manage to hold or even beat them without all those missing players [Stilian Petrov (Celtic) and Martin Petrov (Wolfsburg) are suspended; Marian Hristov (Wlfsburg), Valeri Bojinov (Fiorentina), Chavdar Yankov (Slavia Sofia) and Zdravko Zdravkov (Rizespor, TUR) are injured]?

Cheers and keep checking the thread. Hot issue discussions coming up!!

OK, this is fun! A BG forum (thanks xerx!!!)

About the BG-SWE game, it will be a tough one. I know Hristo
will be able to fire up the boys, but will we have enough players?

The Swedes are very careful in their comments (I live in sweden), but
they expect a win nontheless.

Henke will not play, and lets hope that Zlatan is as impotent as he has
been lately for Juve.

BBB

PS and what about that Ivet Lalova, can she run or what

Today, coach Stoitchkov announced wat the players included in the group 4 the SWE and HUN matches would be :

Bulgaria squad vs Sweden and Hungary
Zdravkov (Rizespor), Ivankov (PFC Levski Sofia), Petkov (FC Kuban Krasnodar), Kishishev (Charlton Athletic FC), Stoianov (JEF United), Markov (PFC Levski Sofia), Karaslavov (PFC Slavia Sofia), Kirilov (PFC Litex Lovech), Topuzakov (PFC Levski Sofia), Lazarov (Gaziantepspor), S Petrov (Celtic FC), M Petrov (VfL Wolfsburg), Manchev (UD Levante), Berbatov (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Alexandrov (Istanbulspor), Ivanov (Samsunspor), Gargorov (PFC CSKA Sofia, note: injured as of 03.16), Yankov (PFC Slavia Sofia), Georgiev (PFC Slavia Sofia), Bukarev (PFC Levski Sofia), Yanev (PFC CSKA Sofia), Kamburov (PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv), Borimirov (PFC Levski Sofia).

At first sight, it all looks normal (given the injuries of missing Bojinov (ACF Fiorentina) and Hristov (VfL Wolfsburg). However, the fact is that Stilian Petrov and Martin Petrov are suspended for the first match vs Sweden at Vassil Levski on Mar 26. What adds to the troubles is the small injuries Berbatov and Yankov are suffering from, which are currently preventing them from full-exertion training. Luckily, at least Zdravkov seems to have fully recovered, but Stoitchkov prefers the younger Ivankov as a starter though Zdravkov still shows more class than his younger colleague despite his age.

The only player missing from the squad that faced Serbia and Montenegro in a friendly last month in Sofia (0:0) is Mihail Venkov (PFC Litex Lovech) who Stoitchkov feels he doesn't need for the two matches ahead. As far as the
players called up to fill in for absent players: Borimirov will probably play his last cap for the team (he is 35); Gargorov is the next young bright star Stoitchkov brings to the horizon - Georgiev and Yankov have proven highly successful; Ivanov and Alexandrov haven't been in the team for more than two years but Stoitchkov wants to prove his statement that everyone would get a chance while he's coach. Wat's more, the style of play of those exact two players pretty well suits Swedes' organization of play.

Let's look at wat the starting 11 would most probably look like:
Goalkeeper - Ivankov
Defenders - Kishishev, Kirilov, Stoianov, Petkov
Midfielders - Borimirov, Georgiev, Yankov, Yanev (for the HUN match S Petrov and M Petrov will replace Borimirov and Yanev)
Forwards - Manchev, Berbatov.

Well, it definitely won't be easy without 4 starters and 2 not fully recovered players against SWE but 2 things are 4 sure - that we'll fight until the last minute and that 44 000 throats will scream the whole 90 mins at Vassil Levski Stadium in Sofia "AJDEEEE BULGARI JUNATSI!"

On the photo, left to right: M Petrov, Bojinov, Yanev and Manchev celebrate Valeri Bojinov's goal vs the Rebublic of Ireland in Dublin (1:1).

You'll take maximum points vs. Hungary by +2 goals.

With all due respect to the Madari they simply don't have the class in the middle to hold the ball the way teams need to do at the international level.
Furthermore with some like Berbetov finishing the quality of the midfield will show even more. Even with the missing players.

Against Sweden, well that's a pick'em. Considering it wasn't too long ago that they beat you by many, most would pick Sweden right away. But Bulgaria have much to prove, this one's at home and playing in front of a neutral crowd is a lot easier than playing in Bulgaria. But they're quality and it's still too hard to pick.

Bulgaria will need to press and that might be dangerous because the Swedes counter-attack well, so any giveaways in Sofia might be punished.

Cheers

Very nice post xerx! It is too bad with the missing players - but such is
life. I read today that in just 7hrs 26.000 tickets for the sweden game
were sold. Levski must sell out. The crowd will be a factor.

I hope our young players perform. This is a very important game.

I agree with Ljubo...Hungary you should sweep with no problems. Sweden on the other hand will be interesting...if you guy show up with a full squad or less 1 or 2 regulars I think you have a chance to win that game, in fact you should get the 3 points. But, reading about your injury situation and that you might be missing 5 regulars well, that will be a tough go. If you tie it should be considered a victory.

Lol, indeed, Bibi..... just 12,000 tickets left, after 26,000 were sold today. 1500 go to VIP people and others associated with the team, 500 to Swedish fans. That goes up to 40,000. What about the other 4,000? After all, the capacity of the stadium is 44,000.

Great news for all Bulgarians living in the States - the match will be on FOX Sports directly starting at 10:15 am on Saturday, Mar 26. THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!! Goddamn it, have been waitin' 4 so long to see a match of the NT here

Jure, don't wait 4 me in the bar 4 the CRO game unless it is at least 3 hours later. When does it start?

Here's the crowd waitin' 4 tickets today:
