Croatian World Games: Zadar 2006

Zadar
15.7.2006-21.7.2006

For the first time in history, the Croatian world games will be held in the summer of 2006. Zadar is the first host city!

The event will feature teams from the Croatian diaspora competing for their respictive adopted countires. Croats from Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Peru, Argentina, U.S.A, Australia and more will compete in 18 sports and disciplines.

Sports included are basketball, beach volleyball, volleyball, football, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, karate, bowls, badminton and athletics with various disciplines.

Full media coverage was promised, a spectacle for opening and closing ceremonies and an event for Croatian people world wide. The Tourism Commission and the Croatian World Congress are involved in making this a momentous sporting event for Croatia and Croats everywhere.

I read about this too..I think its great because its a way for all Croatians from around the world to get together and meet up with each other. Its also a great way for the Croatians in Croatia to get to know the diaspora a bit. It should be fun...The Jewish people have been doing this for years. They call it the Macabi games and I have a friend that represented the US in basketball at the event. He says its something great and that us Croatians will love it.

Just wondering? Will sleeping, drinking, and being lazy be events in these games? If so, there will be no clear cut winner. To close to call!

By the way, nows our time to form a curling team. We'll be ready for the 2010 Winter games.

That would be funny...can you imagine how they will measure the close calls? A belt? A tree branch? Some guy taking steps with his feet? or with their fists..I can picture it, the guy gets down close to the ice, makes a fist, and starts the count: "Jedan, dva, tri, i dva prsta."

How about marathon speedwalking? I hear there were some ex citizens of Croatia from around Knin who were excellent in this discipline.

Yeah, that was hilarious, and the thing is, that's exactly what would happen.

But take it easy on curling guys, I know it looks boring but trust me it's fun when you play it.

Cheers

The event that will draw the biggest crowds will be the "Sija Seta" tournament.

Hercegovci would win Kamena s' ramena hands down. Everytime a Lican throws it, the rock lands on his foot.
