View Full Version : Bosnar quits socceroos

I see Eddie Bosnar has declared he won't play for the socceroos again as long as Farina is coach (which is big of him, considering he wasn't selected for the squad in the first place). I wonder if he's going to get David Moyes the sack next, as it doesn't look like he'll be picked for Everton anytime soon.
It's a pity Tim Cahill doesn't do the same thing. Surely you can't really need him to beat the Solomon Islands?!

Yep he said that he'll wait a couple of years to see what happens with the coaching role but if Frank is still in charge, then most likely he'll defect to Croatia. This is worrying because the lack of depth we have of left sided defenders. He should of been in the squad over Tony Vidmar or Kevin Muscat.
Another worrying story that has come up is that Scotland are interested in calling up Scott McDonald to their under 21 team.

I read in one of the local Croatian papers on the net that Bosnar has contacted the Croatian NT and would like to represent Croatia. Why do so many of your players hate Farina?

Like who?
If you're referring to Didulica and now Bosnar, both of them are hacks who couldn't get within 1000 miles of a Socceroo cap :D
If they want to pull this "ummm... well... if you won't pick me, screw you,I'm off to Croatia" nonsense, no-one's stopping them. ;)

Bosnar must have some ego; 1000 miles from a socceroo cap must be at least a light year from Croatian one. :winkg:

Well I dont know much about Bosnar, but Didulica right now is the back up goalie for the Croatian NT while Pletikosa is tending to his injuries. Also Didulica hasnt allowed a goal in over 700 minutes of play in the Austrian league, I know what your thinking "its the Austrian league for Christs sake" that may be but he still is keeping the ball out of the net.

Surely you're not implying that The Official FIFA World Rankings are a load of bollocks?!
And, according to said rankings, Croatia are the 23rd best team in the world whilst australia are 64th. And the USA are 11th, and so officially superior to (for example) Turkey, Germany and European Champions Greece........Hmm......ok, debatable is a good word.

Quality post.
Australia is stronger than ever right now - and we can boast something that no other 'second/third world' footballing nation (Japan, USA, Korea, etc.) can, a first team made up entirely of European based first teamers:
GK: Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough, EPL)
LB: Lucas Neill (Blackburn, EPL)
CB: Tony Popovic (Crystal Palace, EPL)
CB: Craig Moore (Rangers, SPL)
RB: Brett Emerton (Blackburn, EPL)
LM: Harry Kewell (Liverpool, EPL)
DM: Vince Grella (Parma, Serie A)
AM: Marco Bresciano (Parma, Serie A)
RM: Tim Cahill (Everton, EPL)
FW: Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough, EPL)
FW: John Aloisi (Osasuna, La Liga)
Our most obvious requirement is in central defence, but everywhere else we look well lumpy.

I had a good laugh when I saw the Bosnar story. What does he expect? Maybe he should have been looked at a few years ago but what has he done recently to get a call up?
Even more pathertic are the threats that he will go and play for Croatia. There is no way he will get selected, which is really besides the point. Either you are with Australia or not, I hate these players that are using other countries to try and force a call up. Didulica included.
PS: Aloisi won't start.:grin2:

Exactly. A few years ago when he was at Hajduk he apparently showed a hell of a lot of promise - but this was at a time just after Sydney 2000 when SocAus was a mess and the Socceroos weren't playing meaningful games. He probably should have been blooded earlier, but he wasn't, that's the way it goes.
Right now he's a reserve teamer for Everton... he'd struggle to get a callup for New Zealand let alone Australia or Croatia.

Yep. That's one thing I really dislike about the two you've mentioned, and also Simunic and Seric in the past. It's one thing to say, "this is my home/heritage, this is where I want to play" from the get-go like Tony Dorigo, Jamie McMaster and Ivan Ergic did - but in the case of these four, they gave assurances, then backed out, then decided for Australia, then for Croatia, etc etc etc. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Fortunately for Australia's sake, we're in a position now to tell guys like Bosnar and Didulica (we sure could use Simunic and Seric at CB and LB though :() to bugger off because we have enough depth and talent to cover them. If this happened a decade ago we'd probably beg Bosnar to stay and hand him the captaincy. :rotfl2:
PS: Aloisi won't start.:grin2:
I know :(
If the USA, Korea or Japan had a player who had scored in Serie A, the English Premier League and La Liga he wouldn't just be a walk-up start, but a god. For some reason Aloisi has to sit there scratching his nuts watching Viduka go through another 10 games scoreless, while Kewell flits about beside him like a fairy.

Bosnar played for dinamo and yeah he suprised me how well he did. I understand his little brother is also in the dinamo juniors at the moment and is supposedly the most talented out of all the Bosnar's. He is an attacking midfielder.
It is hard to argue with you dyertribe. I support Croatian football but I also like Australia aswell and it isn't right what these players did and are still doing.

Ok guys I agree that Bosnars threats are worthless, but you have to give him credit, the boy wants to play soccer. There are a few players out there who just go through the mossions and dont give 100% at all. Some are even comming out with excuses for not bothering to play at all.
Now no disrespect to Oz, I"ve been down under 3 times and loved it....but if I was a pro soccer player and had my pick of playing for Cro or Oz ....Im sorry but I would have to pick Croatia. ......Remember if a player wants exposure you have to go to the big show, and tell me how many times has Aus qualified....I rest my point
You think if Viduka had to do it all over again he would pick Oz over Cro...hell no, he would be wearing the red, white and blue...if we had him in "98 the Worl cup would have been residing in Cro.

National team football shouldn't be about that. It is about representing your country. Simunic, Didulica and the rest have no reason to play for Croatia. They learnt their football in Australia and then turned their backs. Didulica and Bosnar did even worse than that by using Croatia to try and force an Australian call up.

I am sorry, but you are wrong.

Sorry to disappoint you, but when I was in Mel{2000} I met Vidukas sister and his family. They made it clear to me that Marko was very sad that he couldnt play for Croatia.
Remember he learned to play soccer in a Croatian team.....and every Cro player has a right to play for the Cro NT no matter where he is born.

Hmm sounds like the argument we had a while ago regarding the same topic and yes even Viduka was used in it as well.
Now I don't know about the rest of the guys here, but if I had to choose between a country that can qualify for the WC with relative ease or the country I was born in, I would choose the latter, Australia.
It's not about playing in the "big show", its about representing the colours of your country. It's about giving back to the country that you were raised in and giving back to the game back home. Sure Australia has a tough route but it'll taste all the bit sweeter if you work harder.

Actually the US did have players that have scored in Serie A...Alexei Lalas did with a header. His only goal in Serie A but he did score. In the EPL, John Harkes scored a few goals for Sheffield Wednesday back in the 90's and I believe he actually might have been Captain (not 100% sure of that though). WHile we may not have had a guy put one in in La Liga, we had a guy in Claudio Reyna that scored a few goals in the Bundesliga when he played there.
The US now can actually start an entire team comprised of European based players if they should choose to do so. Soccer has improved by leaps and bounds here in the States and the players will only get better with the MLS. While the MLS isn't a great league (neither is the Mexican league, but look how good their NT has done in the World Cup since 1986) but, the point is, its a place where players can play on a professional level, it used to be only the great players went to Europe and those that couldn't were stuck playing what amounts to semi-pro soccer after their college careers have ended. Now, with things like "project 40" where talented young players are taken and train with NT coaches rather than go to college, young players like Eddie Gavin and Magee and Adu playing in the MLS, more and more players getting offers to play in Europe, US Soccer is on the map and I do understand that it is hard to accept in some places in the world, especially Europe that US Soccer is gaining in strength.
Anyway, back to the topic...my opinion is that you should play for the country of your birth but, you can't force a player to play there if he doesn't want to. The players that annoy me, are those that play one country against another to force the issue. Its a shame to me that a talented player like Hargraves who was born in Canada and could have helped Canada greatly, yet, he goes to play for the English NT (as if England doesn't have any talent where if Hargraves didn't play it would decimate the NT). Viduka made his choice, chose Australia and that was his option to do...Simunic chose Croatia, what can you do...

JureM, you missed the point. My point was that Aloisi - one man - has scored in all three leagues, the EPL (for Coventry), Serie A (for Cremonese) and La Liga (for Osasuna) and can't crack our first team.
If I was talking about individuals scoring in various leagues I could say:
EPL:
Robbie Slater
Stan Lazaridis
Mark Viduka
John Aloisi
Tim Cahill
Hayden Foxe
Lucas Neill
Brett Emerton
Harry Kewell
Richard Johnson
Danny Tiatto
Craig Johnston
SPL:
Mark Viduka
Patrick Kisnorbo
Danny Invincible
Tony Vidmar
Scott McDonald
Craig Moore
Serie A:
John Aloisi
Marco Bresciano
Vince Grella
Bundesliga:
Josh Kennedy
Paul Agostino
Ned Zelic
Ere Divisie:
Josip Bacak
Ante Milicic
Aurelio Vidmar
Graham Arnold
Jason Culina
Brett Holman
Lindsay Wilson
Le Championnat:
Frank Farina
Mile Sterjovski
Nick Carle
La Liga:
John Aloisi
etc etc etc... But who's counting?... ;)

I think I've discovered why Bosnar has been such a cocky prick lately.
Was perusing the Aussies Abroad section of the ASA website and found this:
Eddy Bosnar played a full game and scored in the 64th minute, as Everton Reserves won 1-0 against arch rivals Liverpool (12 October).
Ahhhh...
