Well the Knightsare back and will play in the state league as of next season. They have named a new coach:
Little-known coach to lead Knights
MELBOURNE Knights have entrusted their future to a little-known coach with almost no experience in Australian soccer.
Zlatko Vego, a 52-year-old who has been in Australia three years, will lead the former national league club in the Victorian Premier League.
Vego, a Bosnian who played professionally as a goalkeeper with Velez Mostar, has had stints as assistant coach at Fawkner and as goalkeeping coach at Preston while learning English.
But he doesn't lack confidence in the new language or his coaching skills.
"Melbourne Knights is a big club with a rich tradition but I've had a level three coaching licence since 1985 -- this is a job I'm really looking forward to," Vego said yesterday.
New Knights president Stan Bilic opted for fresh blood despite the risk of alienating many former players the club is keen to entice back.
The club's previous administration released a full squad of NSL players in March to enable them to earn a wage from the game while the Knights waited for nine months to be admitted to the VPL.
In return the players, led by captain Rody Vargas, pre-signed transfer forms to return to the club.
In theory, the Knights can recall Vargas from Green Gully without having to seek a release. But, in reality, the pre-signed document is worthless if Vargas does not want to return.
"We haven't spoken to any of the players as yet but we're confident most of them will want to come (back)," Bilic said.
Vego was lured to Australia by former Velez teammate Ivo Prskalo, who became a Socceroo legend in the 1980s after joining Marconi in 1977.
"We've remained very good friends and I agree with Ivo's belief that this is a country with a rich soccer future," Vego said.
"My appointment has only become official today but I've already been getting calls from players wanting to come, so I've got no doubt we'll get a very strong squad together."

So...um...Ero does this make you assistant and can I get a job? :grin2:
