Yes......Croatia won their first and only gold at the olympics. They beat Germany in handball final, 26-24

Great success for Hrvatska in the Olympics with 5 medals in total. Vlasic was a disappointment and she could have made it 6 but, from what I read she was not feeling well this past week with some kind of virus that sapped a lot of her energy. But thats ok..for a small country like ours, 5 medals are a huge accomplishment.

WELL DONE! to our handball team. I kept up with the game against Germany through Sportnet.hr and the Germans seemed like they played thier best game but our guys always kept coming back and not giving up or becoming lazy(sometimes a Croatian mentality). Very cool we finaly got a gold medal! and 5 in total is a really good number for a small country like ours. :bouncing: The Handball team showed our soccer team how it should play(with heart)

I was jumping up and down almost as much as the players watching the game! I don`t understand handball at all but it was great to see Croatia come through. It was even more demanding as the Croatian team didn`t appear to have the depth of the Germans. Therefore, while the Germans could keep rotating there players, Croatia had most of the same players out there for most of the game. If anybody didn`t get to see it then they missed a great pass (I think by a player called Dzomba!?) through the legs of a German player to set up a goal. By the way, at the end it looked like one of the German players pushed the Croatian coach, I guess the guy was a bad loser.

It was Ivano Balic who did that pass, HRV :)
Balic was one time hanballer of the year and he was awarded MVP of the Olympics. He does these passes because he is a big fan of the NBA and he uses the same style in handball.

About the Handball, I had a friend tell me that our style of play was complimented on by the Russian coach as totally unordthodox, anyone else hear this?

They also didn't even put the match on the CBC or even put it on the bloody ticker, not even the ticker. Interesting.

Also why in hell does Iraq, a war-torn and devastated country, get to play football in the Olympics and our team was banned from the 94 WC for the same reasons? Doesn't add up. I know they are two different organizations but I don't see how our situation is all that much different.

Iraq has been a member of FIFA for a long time. Unfortunately we had to apply for FIFA/UEFA membership by which time it was late to put us in the qualification groups. Note that it was difficult for us to get into the 92 olympics in most sports as some federations were morons about this.
