Anybody see it? I caught it last night and as expected, laughed my tail off for two hours. Not as good from start to finish as Wedding Crashers, or even Old School, but Ferrell carries every scene he's in while Gary Cole (the dad from the Brady Bunch movies) steals every scene HE's in. I like Sascha Cohen, but I thought his performance was weak in this one. Leslie Bibb is on another plane in terms of hotness.
Three stars out of four on the Raxometer.

I tire of redneck humour. It's overdone and frankly....not that funny. Saw it last night. Had its moments, but far from being a classic.
Leslie Bibb? Dime-a-dozen blonde.

Haven't seen Clerks II and was afraid to waste my money on it for fear that it would be a dud because its really tough to top a cult classic like "Clerks" was. I haven't seen the reviews but saw the filming of it on HBO (or one of those movie stations) and the turn off was that they filmed it in California rather than Jersey meaning you can't get that Jersey feel to it.
I'll give it a try this weekend to see how it is. In your opinion, how does it compare to the first one?

Saw Clerks II. Should've gone with the wife to see Devil Wear's Prada.
It was about as complete a betrayal of Clerks as it could be. Sure there were some funny moments, with Kevin Smith writing how could there not be, but overall the movie is a piece of crap. Well, as close to a piece of crap as a movie could be with Rosario Dawson in it. She is the hottest chick of all time.

Sure it ain't as good as the first one but I didn't expect it to top the first one. I still find it hillarious nonetheless. These type of flicks one has to appreciate what they're all about. Obviously the Canuck contingent doesn't get it. :D

2 different review...I had a feeling that Clerks II was going to be one of those either you love it or hate it type movies with no in between.
Any classic moments ala having sex with a dead person like we saw in the original...and what made it even more funnier was when they were wheeling the stiff to the ambulance, he was pitching a tent.
Though, I'll still go and see it this weekend.

Not getting it? What's not to get? Like I said, Clerks was good. It was original. The only redeeming features of Clerks II is that the characters at least stay true to the original.

I like the Kevin Smith movies not because they're brilliant or insightful, but because they have good lines; the ultimate barometer of popcorn movies (of which all Smith movies are - we're not talking Citizen Kane here). Time permitting, I'll see it at the theater, laugh my head off at any scene with Randall and be completely satisfied.
Marco - I didn't really think this was redneck humor, per se. Sure, there were jokes about the south (ike the girl who brought her Waffle House night manager Dad in for career day and Ferrell sounds like he's impersonating W on SNL when he reads Ricky Bobby lines; but I laughed more about the random insane stuff that pops into Ferrell's head; the majority of which is simply adlibbed (as evidenced by the outakes at the end of the movie, outakes from the Anchorman DVDs, etc.). His throw-in lines like, "this is just like that Whitesnake video" and his making animal noises while making out with the redhead are typical Ferrell gems, IMO. The whole bit about "8 pound, 6 oz. Baby Jesus" and pulling the knife out just killed me.
Actually, I think the whole "outake at the end of the movie" schtick was a veiled dig at Burt Reynolds who made that bit a staple at the end of the Smoky & The Bandit, Cannonball Run and Stoker Ace series'.
And I disagree on Leslie Bibb: even by bottle-blonde arm candy standards, she was outstanding.

Disclaimer: haven't seen clerks or ricky bobby.
I heard Smith explain why he did it. I'm waiting until HBO. I think the premise that he laid out (Revisiting characters, that were early 20's slackers in the first, to see how they would react to being mid 30's slackers) could hit home with me.
My friends and I are at an age where the life gap is starting to widen. Some are advancing in their careers, buying homes, and starting families. Others are still pumping gas and smoking weed in their mom's basement. I don't put one above the other because I love both types of friends, but it's been a while since that type of subject matter was done in a good way.
The last movie I remember to really take on that subject was "Reality Bites". And my memory was that it couldn't get past telling me that Whitey is bad. Really? That's great, I'll grow up and be a slacker hippie. Yay me.
Ricky Bobby has the 1,000 lb gorilla of being Farrel's first big movie since Anchorman. For me, that's a hall of fame movie. Right up there with Animal House and Caddyshack. The trailer for the Borat movie has me much more excited.

I just want to add that I saw the Island last night. I'll give credit to Michael Bay for making Scarlett Johanssen look top notch, and I always like young Obi Wan in pretty much anything. Other than that, it made me want to commit ultraviolence.

Like I said, it's not as good as Wedding Crashers, Old School or Anchorman; but if you love Ferrell (as I do), you'll eat it up.
Tim- did you see the Best Buy DVD "Ron Burgandy: The Adventure Begins" that accompanied the Anchorman DVD when it was released? They basically had so much adlibbed material that they created a 2nd Anchorman movie which basically followed the plotline of Anchorman with some slight changes and different lines in some of the same scenes (if that sentence made any sense).

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I haven't seen it. I have yet to buy Anchorman on DVD, I have it saved on my DVR. I'll catch that someday.

The miracle of the internet...this is my favorite clip from the "2nd" Anchorman movie. Don't know why, but I pee myself laughing when he starts singing, "Hush little baby, don't say a word...". Also - note the 7-11 sign behind his shoulder around the 2 minute mark...rated office "G" :howler:

I have no interest in seeing these movies. I am content to watch M-Rod's amazing goal vs. Mexico. Over and over and over and over and over and over......

I need to go see this rather soon. I figured the movie would be good for 1 or 2 names for my fantasy football teams this year.

Ferrel is the shit. The girl I'm seeing has no interest in seeing Talladega Nights. Ferrel looks hilarious from what I saw of the trailers. I'll have to wait a few months for this to come out on DVD.
Ferrel has the ability to look off aimlessly into space and get me to bust my gutt. Comedic genious.

I saw the first Clerks. A great comedy, definetly better than crap that comes out these days. Saw Ricky Bobby. Typical Ferrell and very funny. Okay overall. I have yet to see Clerks II. Smith said this was to be his last movie in the View Askviewuniverse or whatever way you spell it and he had a much better budget than the black and white Clerks so I assume its better.

It is the last in that universe. He says that he feels a more complete sense of closure than "Jay/Bob Strike Back".
Clerks 2 has a bigger budget, but he still kept it fairly cheap (5 Million). The movie will at least break even at the theaters, so the video sales (where his movies always do well) will give him and the studios a nice profit. I think that's the main reason Kevin Smith will always get work- He makes sure he makes movies that can make $.
